I am looking for a sub-letter for my room in a cooperative house during the Spring semester (January 1 - May 7) of 2010. Cooperative housing is an arrangement where many people live together in a single house and share space and responsibilities. We also buy food together as a house and prepare dinner every night. All members of the coop are expected to put in about 5 hours of work for the house per week, which could include cooking, cleaning, and other responsibilities. We also have house meetings once per month that you would be expected to attend. Living in the coop is definitely not all work - people often gather together and have fun, we host potlucks and movie nights, and very occasionally we will have a big house party. Our house is part of Bloomington Cooperative Living, which consists of two coop houses in town.

The house (affectionately known as Helm's Deep) is spacious and accommodating. We have two large common rooms, one kitchen and two kitchenettes, three bathrooms (one on each floor) a piano, a projector for movies, a small library, parking for all residents, and much more. All common space and things can be used by anyone living in the house, and you are welcome to bring your friends over as well. There are 14 people living in the house, representing a fairly even split of undergraduates, grad students, and non-students. Your room would be on the first floor and has two large windows. It is approximately 180 square feet, and has nice woodwork and a 10 foot ceiling.

Total charges are $550 per month. This includes rent ($350), all utilities, ample food for all meals, and other basic household supplies. We are vegetarian friendly and do not purchase meat with house funds, though you are welcome to prepare and eat meat in the house.

the house is native limestone. its just the size of an apartment, so spacious enough, but not too much to clean. i need someone for one bedroom. I'll be in the other.

Hey,

So our current roommate is getting married and just bought a house. So now we have a room available.

The rent is $350 + 1/3rd of utilities, which comes to about another ~$75 each month, mostly
because of the heating bill in the winter. But I'm gathering wood so we can start using the fireplace more often.

I'm Eric. A grad student in Folklore, and I mainly study the Polynesian Dance Revival in the United States. I travel a lot, been to over 20 countries, and I have a bunch of things I've collected from my travels around the house. Last summer I was in Tahiti and New Zealand, and now have some huge conch shells adorning the living room.

There's also Vishnu. He's from California and currently doing an undergrad degree in Business. He likes to grill, and hopes you
have a big appetite. But... if you're a vegetarian that works as well, our old roommate is and we've refrained admirably from
adding meat to his mac & cheese.

Other than that, we have everything communal that you would need. We usually buy groceries communally, but we're not really anal about
splitting the bill evenly or anything. I don't know if you'll have a car here or not, but Vishnu has one so going places and buying
groceries and other what nots are possible.

We keep the house pretty clean, the communal areas anyway. My room I will admit, is a bit... disorganized. Our policy on doing the dishes
is, we'll do them when we do them... since we don't have a lot of dishes its kinda often, which is good because we don't like dishes piling up. We don't really split any chores, we just sort of do whatever whenever we feel like it, and its kept things in order pretty well.

Also, there are two dogs living here. My dog is a little blonde dog named Oliver. Vishnu is taking care of his friend's dog, which is a Beagle named Pokey - she's very sweet, but will jump out of windows, so we tend to keep those closed.
